IntroductionEstonia is a country rich in culture and at the heart of that culture is is singing. Singing quite literally saved this country. In this website you will find an examination of Estonia and its culture of song. Folksong continues to be an important part of Estonia's culture.
We will explore Estonia's National Song Festival that is held every five years and is attended by 75,000-100,000 people. We will also see how this country's political history is tied to song and learn how this incredible tradition changed the course of Estonia's history. Finally, we will highlight Estonia's finest choral composers and their contribution to the national music. Each composer has been selected because of their embracing folk song in their own music.
